Open Source champion Igor Portugal moves into VoIP
Having sold his share in New Zealand's first Linux specialist company Asterisk Ltd.* to Gen-i, open source champion Igor Portugal has not moved far from the open source field. Igor is now the CEO of Vadacom Limited, a VOIP solutions vendor.
While Vadacom's line of business is in the different field from Asterisk's traditional line of business, Vadacom still supports the open-source community and Vadacom's products are largely built on the open-source technology.
“VoIP is a fascinating field. It combines the century old telecommunications industry with the new IT industry and the Internet. It brings with it a whole new set of technical and commercial challenges that inspire me to get up every morning and go to work.” - says Igor. -”Also, many of the VOIP-related open-source projects represent some of the best cases for the commercial viability of the open source model. Digium is a prime example of such commercial success.”
Igor Portugal is one of the founding members of the New Zealand Open
Source society. His passion for technology earned him an excellent
reputation in New Zealand's IT community. Igor is clearly recognized as
one of the leaders in New Zealand's Open Source movement and Linux
advocacy by Linux supporters and opponents, and other members of the IT
community, neutral to the Linux debate.
